Mike and Diane Pohorylo have long been visitors to the island of Martha's Vineyard - first as a couple and then as a family, with the addition of Megan, their daughter, and Michael, their son. Their love of the Vineyard led them to purchase the Dodger's Hole lot in 1980. Eight years later, they fulfilled a longtime dream by building a house on the lot.
Besides enjoying some "deck time" at the house, a favorite activity was taking the Jeep out on South Beach - regardless of the time of year. President watching has also been popular, beginning with Clinton's inaugural visit in 1992.
Since then, the family has experienced many momentous occasions on the island - Megan and Brian's wedding, Michael and Morgan's engagement, and their son Alex's first trip to the beach - among other lasting memories.
Megan and Brian purchased the house in 2012, so that Mike and Diane could build a handicap-friendly home back in Connecticut, given Mike's ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) diagnosis in 2010. Later that year, the family of seven (with an eighth on the way) spent a nice 4th of July together at the house.
The eighth addition to the family - Colin - experienced his first visit with mom Megan, dad Brian and Nonna Diane in 2013. It was a bittersweet trip, as the family lost Mike to ALS just two months prior. But, Mike's memory lives on.
The family grew even bigger with the additions of Adam and Owen, who each experienced their first visits during the summers of 2015 and 2018, respectively. The Vineyard and this house have always been a special place for our family. We are thrilled to share it with our guests, in the hopes they and their families can make their own wonderful memories on the island!
